Thriving Minds Approach
My counseling style is very empathetic, mindful and client-centered, yet direct and straightforward. I apply cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness practices and trauma-informed care. Although I practice using different therapy approaches, I do not believe therapy is a one size fits all approach. I believe in using the therapeutic relationship as an effective way to work through your experiences. I will meet you exactly where you’re at and provide an open and safe space to talk through all the things going on in your life. I believe in treating everyone with respect and pride myself on demonstrating compassion for all and being sensitive to the needs of those I am working with.
Whether it be a child, teen, or adult, it takes a great deal of courage to seek professional help and even more courage to implement changes. However, if you are ready to take the next steps to begin living a more fulfilling and self-empowered lifestyle, I’d love to help guide you along the way.
Specialty Therapy Approaches
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
I have had multiple specialized trainings in using CBT over the years to treat anxiety, depression, self-esteem, problematic sexual behaviors in children, and phobias. I've worked with adolescents and adults on the recognition of thinking, behavior, and feeling patterns and being able to alter these to ease concerned areas listed above.
-
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
As a Mexican American who has been in therapy myself, I have experienced how important it can be to connect with a therapist that understands the ins and outs of cultural norms as well as concerns that can arise such as anxiety, co-dependence, boundary issues, and difficulty with identity among other things. I have worked at cultural centers serving different populations and ethnicities and use a culturally sensitive approach to therapy.
-
Family Therapy
I have worked extensively in family therapy. The goal of sessions are to provide you with education on the mental health symptoms your child/teen is exhibiting, how to recognize them, how they may present at different age ranges, teaching you the coping skills to help your child at home to practice skills learned in sessions, and to facilitate communication between yourself and your child to create a healthier environment.
